🥁 DRUM NOTATION GUIDE:

4TH NOTES

These are your basic hits: one per beat. If you count “1, 2, 3, 4” and hit on each number, you’re playing 4ths. Super solid and easy.

8TH NOTES

They’re hits you play twice on every beat. If you count “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and,” you’re playing 8ths. Super common and used in tons of grooves!

16TH NOTES

These are four hits per beat. If you count “1-e-and-a, 2-e-and-a…”, those are 16ths. They’re fast and great for detailed grooves or speedy fills.

TRIPLETS

Triplets split each beat into three equal hits. Instead of “1-and,” you count “1-trip-let, 2-trip-let…” They have a bouncy, swung feel and are used a lot in gospel, jazz, and Latin music.
